Qu'Appelle

This photo dated around 1900 shows a First Nations elder with children at the Qu’Appelle Indian Industrial School in Lebret, in what is now Saskatchewan.

I should sit on the left side of the scenic car, a prime spot to view the sweeping Qu’Appelle Valley.

The Qu’Appelle River runs 267 miles through Saskatchewan to join the Assiniboine River in Manitoba.

When it comes to water management, the Qu’Appelle and Assiniboine river have limited controls.

The largest ancient encampment we saw lies near a shallow lake in the prairie about a mile from the Qu'appelle valley.
