Joseph Seiders, the drummer for the indie rock band the New Pornographers, has been charged with possession of child pornography after being arrested for allegedly videotaping unsuspecting boys in a Palm Desert Chick-fil-A restroom.

Staff at the restaurant on Dinah Shore Drive in Palm Desert recognized him from an incident two days before and alerted deputies.

A half-hour away in Palm Desert, Swiss artist Raphael Hefti, 46, has stretched an impossibly long strip of reinforced fire-hose material, jet black on one side and mirror-bright silver on the other.

Only three installations stand out — one at the foot of a hiking trail in a Palm Desert park, the other two in dusty landscapes in Desert Hot Springs.

The program reaches Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Saturday and Sunday, and then the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert on Tuesday and the Soraya at Cal State Northridge the following weekend, Feb. 22-23.
