The Zhengxin Huanghe Bridge is a major overpass across the Yellow River, connecting Zhengzhou and neighboring Xinxiang.

Cities including Luoyang, Hebi and Xinxiang in Henan that suffered heavy flooding in July closed public attractions and shops, CNS said.

The rains headed north in the following days, hitting the Henan cities of Hebi, Anyang and Xinxiang.

After drenching Zhengzhou, where people drowned in subway trains and their cars, the clouds headed north to Xinxiang.

“It was the most water I’d ever seen,” Yu said, standing in her family warehouse in a neighborhood of Xinxiang, a city of six million people in the heart of central China’s Henan province.
