Xanthian

Xanthian, zan′thi-an, adj. pertaining to Xanthus, the capital of ancient Lycia, in Asia Minor.

In 1845 he was knighted “as an acknowledgment of his services in the removal of the Xanthian antiquities to this country.”

While following in the track of Mr Fellowes, he caught the fatal Xanthian fever; and after many relapses died here.

Not far, with tears, the snowy tents he knew Of Rhesus, where Tydides, bathed in blood, Broke in at midnight with his murderous crew, And drove the hot steeds campward, ere the food 550 Of Trojan plains they browsed, or drank the Xanthian flood.

A curious relic is the Soros, discovered placed on the top of one of the Xanthian pillar tombs.
