The Met's Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said: "WPC Yvonne Fletcher was just 25 when she was callously murdered. She was simply doing her job, policing protest, not unlike what many officers do so often today."

The WPC news release and statement from Gallagher on Wednesday made no mention of those complaints, but said Gallagher was departing to focus on a consulting firm in the expanding field of artificial intelligence.

But in a confidential Feb. 1 email to WPC board members, Porter wrote that he was working with the group’s attorney on a separation agreement for Gallagher to “tender his resignation immediately with a public announcement on February 7th.”

An affiliate of the State Policy Network, a 50-state association of like-minded groups, the WPC promotes a free-market agenda and is a frequent critic of tax, climate and spending laws enacted by Washington’s Democratic-majority Legislature and Gov. Jay Inslee.

The WPC’s research is often cited by GOP lawmakers.
