It is yet another example of the state’s failing water systems, many of which are in rural parts of the state’s Central Valley, where water is drawn from wells that are contaminated.

“The water system serving the Palisades continues to meet all federal and state fire codes and water quality standards while these additional repairs are completed,” Collins said.

Existing California law requires any building with a dwelling unit to maintain “certain characteristics in order to be tenantable,” which includes maintenance of adequate heating and hot water systems.

Water had been dripping from various pipes since 2022 causing corrosion within the hot water system and damage to walls and floors.

The state and federal water systems, including dams, aqueducts and pumping facilities, are among the world’s largest.
