Almost a year to the day of the devastating wildfires in Maui that killed at least 102 people and leveled 2,200 structures, the community has a team to rally around in a group of 11- and 12-year-olds from Wailuku Little League.

“So we’ve shaken that tree pretty hard … and will continue shaking that tree until we’ve got sufficient resources for all,” Dargan said at the news conference, which was held in Wailuku on Maui and streamed online.

They have spent the last three months moving from one place to another, recently settling into a three-bedroom townhome in Wailuku.

The 16 minutes of video released at the news conference in Wailuku showed officers evacuating a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf shop at a supermarket on Front Street, a neighborhood that largely burned in the blaze.

“The stunning beauty from Wailuku, who performed a monologue, placed in the top 10 at Miss America and is forever recognized as the inspiration behind the iconic Hawaiian Airlines face which symbolizes aloha worldwide,” the post said.
