Virgin Islands National Park

Best of all, more than two-thirds of the island is protected as Virgin Islands National Park, home to pristine beaches, rugged hiking trails and scores of archaeological sites.

Some cruisers, seeking a more secluded haven away from town, have nestled among the tree-sheltered waters of the Virgin Islands National Park, which makes up almost two-thirds of St. John.

More than 15,000 people annually visited the property nestled within the Virgin Islands National Park and home to a handful of endangered species.

Following the storms, the Friends of Virgin Islands National Park, a nonprofit based on St. John that maintains trails in the park, needed skilled sawyers to clear roads and trails.

The National Park Service has partially reopened the Virgin Islands National Park, which covers two-thirds of the island.
