We walk around the block from the station, past the Senckenberg Natural History Museum Frankfurt, to thePhysikalischer Verein, the local physicists’ society, which predates Goethe University Frankfurt’s 1914 founding.

The local Turn Verein Hall — which doubled as a gym — closed in the 1940s, but the community renovated another nearby venue, the Cat Spring Agricultural Society Hall.

The AfD has since included Verein Gedächtnisstätte on a list of groups its members are forbidden from joining.

Doris Fürstin von Sayn-Wittgenstein, a former chair of the AfD’s Schleswig-Holstein chapter, was removed from the party’s regional parliamentary group after admitting she had endorsed Verein Gedächtnisstätte, a group founded in 1992 by a convicted Holocaust denier, Ursula Haverbeck-Wetzel.

With Dentons’s business organization as what is known as a verein, which is an association of independent legal entities, Mr. Bower predicted that “it will be challenging for them to create and maintain a unified vision and mission for their brand.”
