Denmark's Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said she was keeping an "open mind" on the proposal, while Sweden's Ulf Kristersson said his country was ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees – if it had the backing of the US.

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has said the government is aware of the cable break and added it "must be seen in the context of the current serious security situation".

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also criticised Trump's use of the word "dictator", saying Zelensky had been democratically elected, comments that were echoed by UK opposition leader Kemi Badenoch.

In a post on social media on Friday, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson acknowledged that the event had caused fear among immigrant communities, and urged people to "unite and stand behind all that we hold dear together".

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, on a visit to Latvia, told reporters: "We have to ensure that only the right people have guns in Sweden."
