Hassan Wanis, head of the general authority for culture in Tripoli, said celebrations and commemorative events were planned in the three regions of old Libya: Tripolitania in the west, Cyrenaica in the east, and Fezzan in the southwest.

The three council members each represent a region of old Libya: Tripolitania in the west, Cyrenaica in the east, and Fezzan in the southwest.

There are only three women among the 41 candidates: One for the presidential council from the western region and two for the prime minister’s post, both from Tripolitania and Fezzan.

The 75-member forum represents the three main regions of old Libya: Tripolitania in the west, Cyrenaica in the east, and Fezzan in the southwest — each to be represented on the three-member presidential council.

Speaking at a Chatham House seminar, Wolfram Lacher, a Libya expert, said the Russian deployment to al-Jufra airbase may be a Russian attempt to prevent Turkish-backed GNA advances beyond Tripolitania.
