Theodosius II

In 435 Theodosius II. and Valentinian III. ordered all Nestorian books to be burned, and another law threatens punishment on all who will not deliver up Manich�an writings for the same fate.

The relics of St. Stephen were preserved at Constantinople, whither they had been transported from Jerusalem by the Empress Eudoxia, wife of Theodosius II.

The arrears of taxation which accumulated in consequence were remitted by Theodosius II. in 428.

Several of his predecessors, and most especially Theodosius II., had endeavoured to codify the chaotic mass and reduce it to order.

The reconstruction of the Roman military forces was reserved for the successors of Theodosius II.
