Teles Pires

Golden mussels have been documented in the Pantanal wetlands just 150 kilometers from the Téles Pires River, which flows into the Amazon basin and connects to the Tapajós River, a tributary of the Amazon.

Sinop, a major soy producing area, is on the border of the Amazon region and the dam has been built on the Teles Pires river that flows north into the Amazon.

Two dams have already been completed on the Teles Pires tributary and hundreds more were planned elsewhere.

Little wonder, then, that among the construction companies aiming to provide finance and support to Furnas for dams on the Tapajós and Teles Pires is the Three Gorges Development Corporation, which built the world’s biggest hydro-electric plant on the Yangtze.

Three other dams are already under construction on the Teles Pires, a tributary of the Tapajos.
