Teisserenc de Bort

From the markings on a planet that are known to be caused by condensation, a French meteorologist, M. Teisserenc de Bort, believes that the circulation of its atmosphere can be inferred, for wherever on the surface of the planet bright spots are seen, there the vapour of rising currents should be condensed.

M. Teisserenc de Bort, who is actively engaged in exploring the air from a meteorological standpoint, has constructed a very sensitive thermometer made of a blade of German silver set in a frame of nickel-steel that does not expand with heat.

In 1896 a French meteorologist named Teisserenc de Bort sent up sounding balloons with automatic instruments, discovered a calm, cold layer of air of uniform temperature, beginning six miles up.

Finally in August 1894 a small sub-committee consisting of Messrs H. Hildebrand-Hildebrandsson, A. Riggenbach-Burckhardt and Teisserenc de Bort was charged with the task of producing the atlas.
