Super-G

The American finished 14th in her first World Cup race back in December, and came fourth and sixth last weekend in super-G and downhill races in St Anton, Austria.

Swiss skier Gino Caviezel suffered a serious crash during the World Cup Super-G in Bormio on Sunday and was airlifted to hospital.

“We were about camping and fishing and being outside. They all ski raced, real Super-G, 50 mph downhill stuff.”

Vonn won Olympic downhill gold at the Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010, where she also took bronze in the Super-G.

Venier decided the super-G on the straight middle section, where she found a better line than her rivals to take speed into the twisty finish stretch.
