The second race in Austria will be named the Steiermark Grand Prix after the region in which it will be held and the Silverstone race the 70th Anniversary GP, celebrating the sport’s heritage since the first championship in 1950.

In Bavaria, authorities had to close roads and some train lines due to heavy snowfall and in some parts of southern Bavaria and the Steiermark region in Austria, schools were closed Monday because of the weather conditions.

While there had been “very constructive talks” with Austria’s federal sports minister and the chancellor, the Olympic committee did not get the necessary support from the province of Steiermark’s regional government, its General Secretary Peter Mennel told Reuters.

“Tensions are running high because these people have long weeks of travel behind them and they feel they are so close to Germany, they don’t want to wait any longer,” said Fritz Grundnig, a spokesman for the regional police in Steiermark.

The greatest discovery ever made at Vienna is due to Auenbrugger, an unassuming practitioner of medicine, who came from the Austrian province of Styria, or, as it is called in German, the Steiermark, about the middle of the eighteenth century.
