“Programs like ours at Spirit Lake Nation have been told mid-July should be when normal deliveries resume, but currently some Tribes haven’t heard from the delivery vendor in days. It is difficult to distribute foods on the reservation if you can’t tell your Tribal warehouse staff when the delivery truck will be there.”

When Mount St. Helens erupted, debris blocked the historic outflow of Spirit Lake, raising the water level 200 feet.

A number of trails in the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument will be closed on weekdays through 2027, as crews update the tunnel at Spirit Lake near the site of the 1980 eruption.

A landslide took out a portion of the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway and the only access to the U.S.

Their history started with the Spirit Lake Lodge, located at the base of the volcano, which was run as a family business by his parents, Dave and Mariam Smith, in 1970.
