Schools were closed for the day in the city of Sion.

That affected some of the island's youngsters like Sion Emlyn Lloyd who planned for a career 30 miniutes from home but has now moved 300 miles away for work.

Paula Williams, whose house is on Sion Street in Pontypridd next to the River Taff, said she only knew about the flooding on Sunday morning because a neighbour came knocking on her door.
