Mr. Smith was one of three men convicted of murder in the 1988 stabbing death of Elizabeth Sennett, whose husband had hired the men to kill her.

The Ohio bill was introduced five days after Alabama used nitrogen in the execution of Kenneth Eugene Smith, 58, one of three men convicted in the 1988 murder of Elizabeth Sennett.

The Sennett family watched from a viewing room that was separate from the one where members of the media and Smith’s attorney were seated.

He was one of three men convicted in the 1988 murder of a woman, Elizabeth Sennett, whose husband, a pastor, had recruited them to kill her.

“Nothing that happened here today is going to bring mom back,” Sennett’s son, Michael, said after the execution.
