Senefelder

In 1796, after years of experimentation, Alois Senefelder, a Bavarian actor and playwright, emerged with the technique we call lithography.

Aloys Senefelder, the inventor of the art, has the direction of the works, with a well-merited pension, and the title of Inspector of Lithography.

Nor must it be forgotten that he was among the first when Senefelder's newly discovered process was imported to try his hand at it.

Weber and Senefelder both laid claim to the invention of lithography, though it was merely an old German art revived.

It is an album of quite ancient lithographs, which was published at Berlin by Senefelder.
