San Gorgonio Mountain

Returning from a trip to the summit of San Gorgonio Mountain in California, Peggy Faulk fell behind a faster-moving hiking companion on Sunday afternoon.

On a clear day, visitors can see for 100 miles and point out landmarks, such as Mount Wilson and San Gorgonio Mountain to the east and Camarillo and the Channel Islands to the west.

San Gorgonio Mountain northwest of Palm Springs received 14.5 inches; Lake Arrowhead reported 8.71 inches; the Civic Center in downtown Los Angeles got 1.98 inches.

This is what happened in a San Gorgonio Mountain fire in 2015, where nearly 10,000 acres were charred, leaving a massive gap in the forest that will persist for a century or longer.
