Saint Leonard

Born on Nov. 6 on the feast of the Saint Leonard of Noblac, his parents named him after the Frankish religious figure.

Van Avermaet was part of a nine-man breakaway that jumped away from the pack after some 20km, shortly after going through Saint Leonard de Noblat, the home town of France's favorite rider, the 80-year-old Raymond Poulidor.

Froome, who has set his sights on double Olympic gold and a third Tour de France title, broke away on the Mt Saint Leonard climb and was joined by his team mate with barely 20 km to go as they took complete control of the race.
