Dr Rowena Christmas, Chair of the Royal College of GPs in Wales said the situation was worrying and it had been ongoing for several years.

On 10 August 2022 MacDonald stabbed his wife Rowena and shot dead his brother-in-law John MacKinnon, before then attempting to murder John MacKenzie and his wife Fay.

Finlay MacDonald, 41, repeatedly stabbed his wife Rowena at their home on the island of Skye before driving 10 miles to another village, where he shot and killed his brother-in-law John MacKinnon.

Police responding to the 999 call about the attack on Rowena MacDonald spotted his Subaru and followed him to the village, near Eilean Donan Castle in Wester Ross.

Rowena MacDonald said Mr MacDonald made the threat weeks before allegedly shooting and seriously injuring the man, John MacKenzie, and his wife Fay.
