"An adult at a day-care center in the Rantoul area has tested positive for a case of monkeypox," Dr. Sameer Vohra, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, said at a news briefing.

The worker at the unidentified day care in the village of Rantoul was in isolation and doing well, officials said.

The Rantoul case is Illinois’ first monkeypox case linked to a day care, Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Lauri Sanders said.

Officers were called to a home in the 1300 block of Abram Dr. in Rantoul around 8:30 p.m., according to Police Chief Anthony J. Brown.

The man was later identified as 32-year-old Blake L. Williams of Buckley, Illinois – about 20 miles north of Rantoul.
