Pippa Chapman's young son had other thoughts, saying simply: "It's been blown out of proportion."

Together with his sister Pippa and parents Carole and Michael, the family became key to keeping life as normal as possible for the royal children.

"I am not the type of person to kick up a fuss," says Pippa, a retired cafe owner.

Pippa has been left with life-affecting pain due to the cyst's impact on her organs, as well as nerve damage in her leg, which she now has to treat daily.

Harvard political scientist Pippa Norris, who has studied political participation across democracies and authoritarian regimes, also thinks it will take more time for major activist campaigns to emerge.
