Philippopolis

Uphill from our hotel is the Ancient Theater of Philippopolis.

Plovdiv, also known as the City of the Seven Hills, was held by Thracians, conquered by Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, who gave it the name Philippopolis.

Archaeologist Elena Bozhinova from the Plovdiv Museum of Archaeology found the remains at the site of an ancient city called Philippopolis near modern-day Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

Ms. Perdikatseva said she has guided Prince Charles, the Queens of Spain and Denmark and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, whom she escorted to dinner at a continental Old Town restaurant called Philippopolis.
