Penry, a Petaluma native, received the nation’s highest honor for “extraordinary heroism at the risk of his own life” from President Nixon in 1971.

He changed his mind after a “spiritual pilgrimage,” as he put it, to the theater in Petaluma where Bradley Nowell played his final gig.

Highland plays Petaluma St. Vincent de Paul in the 4-AA final at 4 p.m.

Today, there are 157, with just two farms, Sunrise Farms and Petaluma Egg Farm, dominating the market.

Perdue, one of the country’s largest poultry producers, now owns Sonoma County's famous Petaluma Poultry, and Colombian agri-business Alpine Foods owns 70 percent of Clover Sonoma.
