Perahia

Over the years, the Leeds International Piano Competition has launched the careers of artists including Andras Schiff, Eric Lu and Murray Perahia; and comes with a £30,000 prize.

The French pianist Alexandre Kantorow was supposed to make his Carnegie Hall recital debut on March 25, 2020, as a late replacement for the ailing Murray Perahia.

With the American pianist Murray Perahia, he received a 1986 Gramophone award for an album of four-hand works by Mozart and Schubert.

The incomparable Romanian pianist, who died Sunday, was admired not only by a large public he kept enthralled but also by the leading pianists of his day, even legendary ones such as Martha Argerich, Daniel Barenboim and Murray Perahia.

First held in 1963, "The Leeds" helped launch the careers of such noted piano players as Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Sunwook Kim and Sir András Schiff.
