paracusis

Paracusis, par-a-kū′sis, n. disordered hearing.

Certain anomalous conditions of hearing are occasionally met with, such as the “paracusis of Willis”—a condition in which the patient hears better in a noise; “diplacusis,” or double hearing; and “hyperæsthesia acustica,” or painful impressions of sound.

If words spoken are incorrectly heard on account of acquired defects of the peripheral ear, the patient mis-hears, and the abnormal condition is called paracusis.
