The smoky haze drifted from the fires toward Palembang, the capital of South Palembang province, causing unhealthy air conditions for the area’s 1.7 million people.

“We are worried as the haze is getting worse in Palembang. … Many children are sick and we can only pray that this disaster will pass quickly,” Umi Kalsum, a private sector worker and mother, told The Associated Press on Monday.

The court in the Indonesian city of Palembang, on Sumatra island, sentenced Lina for her actions on Tuesday and found she deliberately "spread information that was intended to incite hate or individual/group enmity based on religion," according to a court document.

The fire started in bushes and trees Wednesday and was burning close to a highway that connects the Ogan Ilir district capital to Palembang, the capital city of South Sumatra province.

The head of Palembang’s Search and Rescue agency, Berty Kowaas, said the decision to call off the three-day search was made after all people reported missing were accounted for.
