Painted Desert

The original Krazy Kat was usually portrayed in a highly stylized version of Arizona’s Painted Desert.

The next day members of the motorcycle club headed northeast, crossing into badlands of Arizona’s Painted Desert, engines roaring amid the red mesas and cottonwood gulleys.

He used his power and influence to protect and conserve 230 million acres of American forest, desert, and plains, including the Grand Canyon, Muir Woods, Yosemite, and the Painted Desert, to name a few.

In 2012, he created the Painted Desert Project, in which fellow artists work with young people on the Navajo Nation and create public art.

Back then, Colter imagined it as a ceremonial space, with huge picture windows framing the Painted Desert; it was also intended as a way to introduce visitors to the Indigenous cultures of the area.
