The oldest and busiest market in the city is Chandni Chowk, a sprawling area in densely populated Old Delhi, which will awaken your senses like nowhere else.

It was 110 degrees as I walked through Old Delhi.

At another liquor store in Old Delhi, a usually highly congested area around the Mughal-era Red Fort, about 200 would-be shoppers pushed and shoved each other to enter.

On a typical day, dozens can be seen circling above Old Delhi, the bustling heart of the city, rising on columns of warm air.

“My business has been hit a lot, it’s down by about 70%,” said Dhanraj Jain, who has been selling firecrackers in Old Delhi for eight years.
