The OAS's electoral observation department said it could not recognise the result because the CNE "was biased towards the government".

Ecuador’s Deputy Minister of Human Mobility Alejandro Dávalos told OAS representatives gathered in Washington, D.C. that Glas did not meet the requisites to merit receiving asylum from Mexico and could not be considered politically persecuted.

The OAS also called for a meeting to discuss the Ecuador incident.

The New Ideas party “assumed a dominant and intimidating attitude against people representing other parties and against observers,” the OAS said, citing one instance in which party members blocked observers from witnessing vote counts.

The statement said the U.S. and its OAS allies will continue to press the Managua government over its human rights record despite the withdrawal.
