To cut expenses, she moved from Nutley, N.J., to lower-cost Nashville, where she rents a small apartment in a friend’s home; she bought a used Nissan to get around and watches her spending.

“Here’s this girl from a family of eight in Nutley, N.J., living modestly, who gets a good idea, builds it into something really fine and profits from it,” she says in “Martha,” a documentary premiering Wednesday on Netflix.

The former resident of Nutley, New Jersey, now lives in Boca Raton and launched her Senate campaign in the wake of her latest reality TV show, “Tan to 10,” a docuseries following her attempt to quit tanning as part of what she calls an “extreme life makeover.”
