Britain’s leading children’s charity, the N.S.P.C.C., welcomed Wales’s move.

The charity has long campaigned for children to have the same protection against assault as adults, an N.S.P.C.C. spokesman said, describing it as “a common-sense move, which is about fairness and equality for children.”

Before I became a mother, N.S.P.C.C.’s campaign to stop cruelty to children could grab my attention, but would not open up my wallet.

At that point, N.S.P.C.C. could become part of my life, but so could other children’s charities.

Then, N.S.P.C.C. offered to send our children a Santa letter that has their own names, family members, the city they live in, their Christmas wishes.
