Escalating the challenge to Jim Crow, Black and white activists began boarding buses in the North, riding them to the South to defy bus segregation.

If there was mostly Joy in Mudville for that magic moment, there was the same in Wisconsin, where I grew up in a town to Milwaukee’s north, riding my bike to Little League games and pulling off to the side when it was time for Aaron to bat for the Braves.

The smaller neighborhoods of South Village, Cedar Hunt and North Riding, which fall within the boundaries, are not part of the South Riding homeowners association.

The AJ1 plate was first used in 1907 by the chief constable of the then North Riding Constabulary, Maj Sir Robert Bowyer.

Those consequences included fleeing north, riding the notoriously dangerous train called La Bestia, “The Beast,” up through Mexico.
