Swift-moving water from the Nolichucky river prevented boats from conducting rescues, and high winds prevented helicopter operations.

This comes after about 100,000 residents were already urged to seek higher ground overnight as the Nolichucky Dam in Greene County — which is on the North Carolina border — was on the brink of “imminent breach,” according to USA Today.

Sutton knocked her unconscious with a piece of firewood, wrapped her in a blanket and trash bags, chained her to a cinder block and threw her alive into the Nolichucky River in Hamblen County.

Unicoi County’s existing outdoor amenities - including Nolichucky River rafting, the Linear Trail in Erwin and the Pinnacle Trail on Buffalo Mountain - already offer outdoor enthusiasts reason to visit.

“������ I think is really cool and unique about the Nolichucky is that this is a natural river - there’s no dams,” he said.
