Two plain-clothed police officers acknowledged that the neighbourhood was much busier than usual, but that it "felt like a Saturday," and that people had been very relaxed.

They included a family of six - a couple and their four children - whose home in the northern Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood of Gaza City was bombed, according to the Hamas-run Civil Defence agency.

The evacuation plan unveiled on Wednesday identifies 150 routes out of Vilnius and assigns neighbourhoods with specific evacuation points, Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT reported.

"Taking neighbourhood officers away from their regular duties is having a continuing impact on local policing services."

She added: "Instead of introducing unworkable and half-baked measures which would prevent the police monitoring serious antisemitism and other racist incidents, the Tories should support the Labour government's prioritisation of neighbourhood policing and serious violence."
