Set in Thailand, it gave us cobra bites, Muay Thai fights and Buddhist insights; suicide trees, queasy sexual sprees and lots of screaming monkeys, not to mention an early image of a corpse floating face down in a pond as a panoply of gunshots rang out.

It ultimately leads to Laurie venturing off to the Muay Thai fight with Valentin and his friends, and she later hooks up with one of them, which results in the world’s most awkward pillow talk.

The knockout blows and roundhouse kicks of Muay Thai fighting hit “The White Lotus” this week — with flashes of a fight spliced throughout the episode — but the more intense combat was happening outside of the ring for our gaggle of rattled characters.
