Morelos y Pavón

The plane was purchased in 2016 and had been named the "José María Morelos y Pavón" after a leader of the Mexican independence movement.

The presidential plane, named Jose Maria Morelos y Pavón, after an 19th century independence leader, took off Monday on what officials said would be its final departure from Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport.

The aircraft cost $218m, and was named after José María Morelos y Pavón, one of the leaders in the Mexican war of independence in the early 1800s.

But two months after winning the presidential election, López Obrador has announced the first serious offer for Mexico’s Air Force One — and it comes from a fierce defender of President Trump, a staunch advocate of a border wall, a man already contemplating what he would do with the 787 known as the José María Morelos y Pavón.

Sure enough there lay a document, which proved upon examination to be an ensign’s commission, granted to Don Cornelio Lantejas, and signed by the commander-in-chief of the insurgent army—Don José Maria Morelos y Pavon.
