Victor Ramirez, who has worked in various warehouses in the Inland Empire over the past two decades, most recently at a facility in Fontana operated by Menasha Packaging, said many of the warehouses he’s worked in did not have air conditioning or fans.

Here are people like Simon Blondheim, who came from Germany and in 1850 opened a clothing store in Alexandria at the corner of Fairfax and King streets, and Menasha and Esther Sher, who in 1918 purchased a general store where the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse stands today.

Kenneth Edward Stumpf was born in Neenah, Wis., on Sept. 28, 1944, and grew up in nearby Menasha.

When he wasn’t at the factory, Mr. Stumpf played for a team in Menasha that a scout had been eyeing for some time.

Rachelle Katchenago of Menasha, Wis., lost her job as a call-center contract worker last year after the pandemic lockdowns took hold.
