X-Men stars Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart are reprising their roles by joining the cast of Marvel's forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Ian McKellen will make his Marvel debut, likely reprising his role of Magneto.

In 2013, he played Cassio in Hytner's Othello at the National Theatre and has also performed alongside Ian McKellen in King Lear.

Billed as a dark comedy about an art forger, the film was written by Ed Solomon and stars Ian McKellen, James Corden and Michaela Coel.

Sir Ian McKellen was in "good spirits" after falling off stage during a performance of Player Kings at the Noël Coward theatre in London.
