Mandalay

The areas of Mandalay and Sagaing were hit especially hard by the earthquake on 28 March, which prompted a rare request from the Myanmar junta for foreign aid.

More than a week after the earthquake, rescue workers were recovering bodies from the rubble of collapsed buildings in Mandalay over the weekend, state media reported.

Roads, water services and buildings including hospitals have been destroyed, especially in Mandalay, the hard-hit city near the epicentre.

Driving into Mandalay, the massive scale of the destruction from last Friday's earthquake revealed itself bit by bit.
