"Our main objections to data centres revolve around their potential negative impacts on our climate, their sustainability, and local infrastructure," says Tony Lowes of Friends of the Irish Environment.

Mr Lowes adds that while Friends of the Irish Environment would prefer to see data centre development halted altogether, there are various mitigations that might help, including sites prioritising renewable energy, and implementing energy and cooling efficiency measures.

“It was around the time that houseplants were getting really popular, so she got into houseplants and I got into cacti. We could both go to Home Depot or Lowes and have fun together,” he said.

Some activists and families such as the Lowes want him to move faster to charge cops in high-profile incidents.
