Ch Supt Davies said the deaths of Mrs Pattison and Lettie highlighted the need to dispel the myths and stereotypes of who may or may not be victims of domestic abuse, and those capable of doing it.

Hinton, his two sisters, Lettie and Eddie Battle — his only survivors — and two brothers grew up in Washington.

But he soon went back to New York to audition for “The Wiz” at the suggestion of his sister Lettie, who was a chorus dancer in the show.

Emma Pattison, 45, was found dead alongside her seven-year-old daughter Lettie on 5 February.
