Sharpe responded to the accusations Monday by posting a statement from his attorney, Lanny J. Davis, on social media.

Lanny Kaufer is based in Ojai, but he’s been conducting Herb Walks through the wilds of Southern California for nearly five decades, pointing out the names and many uses of the region’s native and invasive plants.

As Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, puts it: “Michael has spent a long and productive afternoon answering all questions, all facts, and completely responsive.”

He replaced the third judge to preside in the case at Guantánamo, Lanny J. Acosta Jr., who held his last hearing in the case in June.

Cohen soon hired Lanny J. Davis, a veteran Washington lawyer and public relations strategist with close ties to Democratic politicians and was telling friends that he was willing to cooperate with prosecutors.
