The water releases lowered the levels of the two reservoirs: Lake Success, near Porterville, had been about 20% full.

Federal records show that water releases from Terminus Dam at Lake Kaweah and Schafer Dam at Lake Success jumped early Friday morning.

The flow from Lake Success near Porterville into the Tule River increased from 105 cubic feet per second to 990.

Army Corps of Engineers — which owns and operates the Tulare basin’s four major dams at Lake Success, Lake Isabella, Pine Flat and Lake Kaweah — is also releasing water to ensure there is room to absorb runoff from the snow.

Federal agencies are also responding to the runoff by making strategic releases from the basin’s four major dams — at Lake Success, Lake Kaweah, Lake Isabella and Pine Flat — to ensure there is room for incoming snowmelt.
