Some legends make Garuda the offspring of Kasyapa and Diti.

The day was called the Nāgula Chaturdhi—Chaturdhi, the fourth day of the eighth lunar month—and was said to be the day when Vāsuki, Takshakā, and the rest of the thousand Nāgulu were born to Kasyapa Brahma by his wife Kadruva.22 The other chief occasions when these ant-hills are resorted to are when people are affected with earache or pains in the eye, and certain skin diseases.

This is an old symbol of Hindu mythology, representing first a Naga, a sacred serpent born of Kadru and the sage Kasyapa. then the serpent-king Sesha, who is usually associated with the god Vishnu in the creation of the world.

Chinese scholars declare that it can only be a Chinese name,83 yet if Kû-fa-lan came from India with Kâsyapa, we should expect that he too bore a Sanskrit name.
