John XIV

He "used testimonies" from 1st John, and probably the saying of Jesus of John xiv.

If Matthew x, 3, and Mark iii, 18, be passed as reconciled, although the first calls the twelfth disciple Lebbæus, and the second gives him the name Thaddæus; there is yet the difficulty that in Luke vi, 16, corroborated by John xiv, 22, there is a disciple spoken of as “Judas, not Iscariot,” “Judas, the brother of James.”

John XIV. installed by the emperor Otho II. in Nov. 983, banished by Francon or Boniface in the month of March following put to death 20th Aug 984 John XV. who died before the month of July is not counted: he is distinct from tbe following, to whom the name of John XV. remains.
