“Jack, Be Nimble”

Without giving away Hunter’s well-argued solution, let me just say that the title of his essay, “Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick,” hints at the approach he takes.

“To love me well with your candlestick, Oh Jack! Be nimble — but not that quick.”

“Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick.”

Indeed he was, but only at the end of “Jack Be Nimble” does he give us any intimation of those triumphs.

But throughout “Jack Be Nimble” there’s also upbeat excitement.
